Distribution and Conservation status categories

NOTE that some conservation statuses are for subspecies, where subspecies are defined. This can result in the same species appearing in more than one category and inconsistencies with assessments at the species level. Eg. Buff-banded Rail appears in the EPBC extinct category because subspecies Macquarie Island Buff-banded Rail Hypotaenidia philippensis macquariensis is extinct. Check the Conservation status section in the entry for the level of assessment.
